The team has been in the Premier League ever since the League was founded in 1978 and remains amongst the most decorated and successful teams in the country. It is estimated that Notwane has 6,000 followers across the country, concentrated in Gaborone, Francistown, Selebi-Phikwe, Mahalapye, Maun, Kanye, Jwaneng, Lobatse, Orapa and Serowe.
It is important to note that Notwane Football Club has won every cup ever competed for in Botswana to date.
Performance in the league has been variable, with only three championships in 1978, 1996 and 1998, but a number of major cups have been won over the years, most of them more than once - the Benson & Hedges Cup and the Mainstay Cup in the 1980s, for the period 1994 to 1998, Notwane won at least one cup each year with the Independence Cup, Supreme and Coca-Cola cups won more than once during this period. Others are the Newslink Cup, Kabelano Charity Cup, the Super League (League honours) and Hyundai Champion of Champions Cup.
The performance of the 1990’s was repeated during the period 2003 to 2009 where the team won a cup every year. These are the Independence Cup in 2003, the World Group Cup Champions in 2004, the Mayor’s Disaster Fund Champions in 2005, the Coca-Cola Cup in 2006, the Kabelano Charity Cup in 2007, and other smaller charity cup tournaments
